Who Does Barack Obama Look Like?

The big news today on the US Presidential election is that Barack Obama will be suspending his campaign to visit his ailing grandmother in Hawaii. Andrew Sullivan says in this regard, "There's a lot more Kansas in Obama than most people on the right seem to think.

Prayers for her, her family and the man who now has to deal with this emotional burden at this exposed and intense time. They are all still human, you know. It never hurts to remember that. And we all forget it sometimes."

Now at first I thought the picture that Andrew posted was Barack Obama on the left, perhaps as young man about to go to college, and his mother Anne Dunham. But if you follow the link on his post, His Last Parent to this Wikipedia article you discover that in the picture are his white grandparents from Kansas on his mother's side, Stanley Armour Dunham and Madelyn Lee Payne Dunham (his grandmother, Toot, who is reportedly in deteriorating health and may be near death.) Toot raised Obama, after his mother Anne died of cancer at age 51. But is it just me, or isn't there a strong resemblance between Barack Obama and his grandfather, Stanley Armour Dunham?

Got the same pic in one of my blog posts -- the uncanny resemblace is fantastic. You'd think they're twins.

Only difference is one is light skinned and the other one is darker.

One of my sons looks exactly like his European grandfather (English) in shape of eyes, nose, lips, in height (1m85), their facial traits are exactly the same, including their ears and the brows except for the color of eyes and hair: my son has jet black hair, dark brown eyes (Grampa was blond and blue eyed)and is not as light skinned as his Grampa. Even in temperament -- my son is very quiet, just so even-tempered but with a lethal sense of humour.

I think he is his Granny's favourite because she really dotes on him, saying he reminds her so much of his grandfather. When old friends of hers come to visit while we're vacationning at her home, they gasp at the uncanny resemblance.

My other son who's got green eyes and who's taller than his brother is clearly a mix and is often mistaken for an Italian or Spanish.

But in black and white, no pun intended, it was really kinda hard to tell that both figures sitting are white. I think the resemblance (not so uncanny really since he WAS Barack's biological grandfather!) threw me off at first and I really thought it was Barack about to go to Harvard or something. Wow, but wasn't Toot just a GORGEOUS lady?

Yep! She is and a successful lady in her own right; a no-nonsense person...

No doubt about it - Obama has all the right genes that make him very qualified to run for the world's most powerful office.

I said uncanny because in many cases it's the "white" genes are often overshadowed by the "dark" genes (particularly when one of the parents is of pure African stock).

If you look at the pic of father and son Obama, there's almost no resemblance at all.

I agree, he looks like a dark version of his grandfather.
