Nobody Died Today...It's All A Vile Rumour!

The flowers they bring
are for the official burial
between Christmas and New Year,
an annual ritual
to console those who fear
he is not quite dead
and just want to make sure,
by hearing about it again.

But nobody died today. It's all a vile rumour!

Rizalist and I bid all Philippine Commentary Readers:
MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

DJB - Jose Rizal is my hero for all times. When I was in UP ages ago, I use to scour the library for books about him. But my favorite was Rafael Palma's "The Pride of the Malay Race." I asked you once the answer to Rizal's query "Where are the youth?" and you answered that they are making it big time in the USA.
We are country at the crossroads, no I correct that, a country facing a blank and solid concrete wall. We need the youth to tear it down, please, so that we can see the light at the end of this dark tunnel. DJB, please tell me that the some of our idealistic youth are still around. Or else, we really we deserve to have gma.

BFR--We ARE that youth grown old, yet ever are our ideals eternal. There is no victory for the wicked -- only the quiet but everlasting disdain of history's vast audience. That is our victory. The victory of the truth and the supernal humour in knowing it so that that audience can be told. That is why the characters of the novels have more reality for us than even the one who created them, and certainly more real than any other historical person of that time, even kings, governors, priests or Popes.

Where are the youth? It isn't age that kills youth but resposibility.

Anyway Manigong Bagong Taon!

Lots of firecrackers!

That is our problem. The one who should set the direction should be someone we can trust, someone whom we feel is one of us, one who suffers with us but who has vision for a new Philippines. One who is willing to risk his life for this vision for sake of the people and who will not like lie, cheat, and steal like Scarlett O'hara just to get rich and have power. And at the of being laughed down, I say someone who does not have to possess a sheepskin that says he graduated from college. All that is important for me is that he possess a BIG BIG HEART THAT BLEEDS FOR THE PEOPLE.
DJB, I like that "we are that youth grown old, yet ever are our ideals eternal." But alas, Rizal was looking at a century hence for the youth of our day. So, I will no longer ask the question but just WAIT for the day to come. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Sometimes I think that all this talk of the YOUTH is just cover for dereliction of duty by EVERYBODY ELSE -- middle aged and beyond! Youth is wasted on the young as they say. It is also the excuse of the Old.

Welecome to a New Year everyone!
